Corrina Reff | Creative Director at State of Assembly | Portland, Oregon

When curiosity leads, design reveals itself

Corrina enters a client’s world with a quiet, attentive presence. She watches for the small details that reveal thought, movement, choices, and belonging. Meaning rises for her through immersion, and design becomes the way she gives that meaning form. That instinct took root in a childhood shaped by curiosity, exploration, and a steady pull toward the unfamiliar.

Curiosity Becomes Direction

Raised in a home that invited exploration, her father carried stories shaped by distance, culture, and a devotion to new experiences. Her mother moved through the world with genuine wonder, asking questions that opened space for reflection. Together they created an atmosphere where invention felt natural and curiosity felt essential.

As a child, Corrina’s childhood love of art and her instinct for understanding were never separate forces. When she began spending time at the home of a childhood friend, she encountered something that widened her sense of possibility. Her friend’s father worked in the creative field, his office filled with in-progress campaigns, early sketches, and stacks of Communication Arts magazines. The space felt electric. She recognized a field that combined imagination with inquiry, craft with interpretation.

In college, this instinct expanded. Corrina studied graphic design at Portland State University, and she studied abroad at the University of Oviedo in Spain. Travel became a way to step into the unfamiliar, to understand a place from the inside. She read anthropological texts with the same hunger she brought to visual language. Anthropology and design felt like two branches of one pursuit: the study of how people make meaning.

Founding the State

In 2014, Corrina co-founded State of Assembly, a place where strategy and design meet with equal measure. Her work sits at the intersection of immersion and articulation. She listens deeply, studies instinctively, and translates insights into systems that help a brand speak with confidence.

Her approach is thorough. She gathers context until the truth of a brand becomes clear. She explores form until expression feels inevitable. She commits fully, preferring a generous beginning over a fragmented path. Her eye is steady. Her craft is deliberate.

Through identity systems, UI architecture, photography direction, campaigns, and brand environments, her goal remains consistent: reveal the essence of the brand and create the visual conditions that allow others to feel it.

Experience Behind the Visioning

Corrina’s approach was derived inside environments where design serves as both meaning and mechanism. Each role sharpened a different dimension of her craft: how systems guide behavior, how clarity strengthens trust, and how visual language becomes the invisible architecture of an experience.

Design as Information Architecture - Her early years in newspapers shaped her ability to bring order to complexity. Daily production deadlines taught her to create clarity under pressure, and editorial design showed her how information breathes—how hierarchy, pacing, and structure guide understanding.

Cohesion for Growth - At EM Marketing, Corrina collaborated with cross-functional teams across ambitious client initiatives. These engagements revealed how design becomes the stabilizing system inside fast-moving organizations—aligning writers, developers, marketers, and leadership around a single coherent expression.

Trust Across Ecosystems - At Education.com, she carried a refreshed brand through the full email-marketing funnel. She learned how each touchpoint becomes a moment of meaning: welcome flows, nurture sequences, critical conversion points. The work showed her how trust is built through consistency, signal, and emotional accuracy.

Design as Identity Within Complexity - At Clari, she shaped the brand and digital presence for the Masters of Revenue program. This work deepened her understanding of how identity functions inside operational systems; how a visual language can unify teams, behaviors, and choices across revenue operations.

Distinction in Product Interfaces - At Credit Sesame, she developed a trademark-worthy credit-tracking UI that departed from the industry’s familiar gauge model. This strengthened her belief that design communicates through feeling as much as through function; interfaces carry identity long before words appear.

What Guides Corrina

Corrina moves toward complexity with enthusiasm. She thrives in the moment before clarity forms. She seeks the unfamiliar because discovery carries energy. Immersion, for her, is a way of life; a way to understand people, place, purpose.

Design becomes the vessel through which she channels this instinct. When she builds a system, she is shaping understanding. When she creates a visual identity, she is expressing the culture beneath it. When she commits to a project, she steps fully into its world.
